Presented by Donna Fedus, MA, a Gerontologist & Founder of Borrow My Glasses, LLC, an education company focused on aging and caregiving from a new perspective. Donna brings 30 years of experience and a passion for dementia caregiving to her work as a gerontologist educator, adjunct professor, researcher, instructional designer, and program strategist.

Changes in communication patterns can frustrate both individuals with Alzheimer’s and people around them. However, there’s often more logic to it than you might think. This workshop will help you crack the code in the early and middle stages of the disease, so you can continue to connect in meaningful and enriching ways.

  • Decipher Alzheimer’s logic – there IS logic.
  • Explore multiple communication strategies to connect with people in early and middle stages Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Discuss the emotional impact on both sides of the communication.

This workshop is facilitated by Borrow My Glasses and sponsored by Artis Senior Living.

Presented by Lori La Bey, Founder of Alzheimer’s Speaks. Lori La Bey is a passionate advocate who searches for ways to shift our dementia care culture from crisis to comfort. She was recognized by Sharecare as the #1 Influencer Online for Alzheimer’s. As a professional speaker and daughter of a mother with dementia for over 30 years, Lori gets it!

This program is designed to help families and friends deal with caring for a loved one with dementia. Participants will walk out with a new understanding of the multilevel dynamics at play when a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia comes into play. We’ll discuss real-life situations, actions and reactions of all involved as days unfold into months and years. The overall goal of this presentation is to remove the fear associated with dementia and get people to realize the true joy which can be embraced when living in the moment.

Honoring a True Hero

Grandpa is a decorated WWII vethe’d been a POW. He moved to Artis at the age of 101. The team at Artis said they wanted to plan something special to honor and welcome him, so they reached out to the VA. We were astonished on move-in day to be greeted by three generals, 25 uniformed soldiers, two town selectmen, two state representatives and five local veterans! The generals each gave Grandpa a special commemorative coin. He was moved beyond words. I don’t know how Artis did it, I’m just in awe they did. They gave this proud old soldier the tribute of a lifetime.
